Case: I am an apartment resident near a railroad, and am so disturbed by noise from the trains. I want to know how much I should put up with the noise, and if there is any resolution to this matter.
Resolution: A builder is required to build public residences certain distance away from facilities with danger and other facilities that makes pollution, or to install noise proof system otherwise in order to protect the residents' living environment.
Pursuant to Construction Standards for Residences, public residences are to be built 50m away from railroads, expressways, and roads wider than 20m. If not, then noise proof walls or trees to block noise must be built so that the noise level can be kept lower than 65 decibel. And public residences, kindergartens, playgrounds for children and center to senior citizens are to be built 50m away from factories generating pollution, storage for dangerous materials and its disposing facilities.
Therefore, according to the current regulations, if your house is located more 50m away from the stem of noise or the noise level in your house is lower than 65 decibel, you just have to be patient with the noise. But if the location of your house or the level of noise in your house is not satisfied the regulations, residents can request the installation of the noise proof walls or trees. |
