With its geographical feature of adjoining the Achasan Mountain and the Hangang River, Gwangjin-gu was the arena of Goguryeo, Baekje and Silla, centering around Achasan Mountain that cherishes noble and pure love between Princess Pyeonggang and General Ondal who is well known as the son-in-law of King Pyeongwon of Goguryeo. Gwangnaru and Ttukseomnaru have been playing a role of transportation hub where a variety of products and cultures of different regions gathered. During the Joseon Dynasty, many nobles and artists stayed at Nakcheonjeong and Hwayangjeong, which were built over the Hangang River and horse ranches across broad hills and fields, to praise its beauty and recite poems.
